Little Learners Transition to Kindergarten
Our Little Learners Transition to Kindergarten program helps children become familiar with Bowen Public School, build confidence and feel ready for their first days of Kindergarten.
Through play, stories, classroom activities and time with our staff, children begin to learn school routines, make new friends and feel a sense of belonging. It also gives our teachers the opportunity to get to know each child’s personality, interests and strengths, while welcoming families into our school community.
Transition to High School
At Bowen Public School, we work closely with our local high schools to help make the move to Year 7 as smooth and positive as possible.
We regularly meet with high school staff to share what we know about our students — their strengths, interests, achievements and the ways they learn best — so every child feels known, valued and cared for as they take their next step.
We also help students feel excited about the opportunities high school can offer, including new subjects, specialist learning spaces, sport, creative arts, technology, leadership opportunities and new friendships.
Whole-School Events
At Bowen Public School, whole-school events bring our students, families and community together to celebrate learning, culture, achievement and connection.
From assemblies and sporting carnivals to cultural celebrations, performances, special days and community events, students have opportunities to participate, contribute and shine. These shared experiences help build school pride, belonging and a strong sense of community.
Whole-School Show
Held every second year, gives students the opportunity to perform, shine and celebrate their talents. 2025 theme was, "Under the Big Top."

Student Agency
At Bowen Public School, students are encouraged to use their voice, take responsibility and make a positive contribution to our school community.
Through opportunities such as school leadership, SRC, house captains, peer support, buddy programs, cultural leadership, sport, creative arts and classroom roles, students build confidence, communication, teamwork, empathy and resilience.
These experiences help students develop a strong sense of belonging and belief in themselves as they learn to lead, support others and become their best.
Cultural Programs
At Bowen Public School, we value the cultures, identities and stories of our students, families and community.
Through culturally responsive programs, students build pride, connection and belonging. Opportunities such as Connections, NAIROC performances, cultural learning, dance, music, storytelling and community events help students celebrate who they are and strengthen their connection to culture, school and community.
Student Citizenship
At Bowen Public School, student citizenship is about contributing positively to our school community and showing kindness, responsibility, teamwork and care for others.
Students are encouraged to make positive choices, support their peers and take pride in their school. We celebrate strong citizenship by recognising students’ efforts and, rewarding them with the privilege of visiting local community supporters as part of special celebration experiences.
Wula Gurray Choir
The Wula Gurray Choir gives students the opportunity to connect with girls from other schools through song, culture and shared performance.
Through this experience, students build confidence, friendship and a strong sense of belonging while celebrating voice, identity and connection with others.
Community Partnerships
At Bowen Public School, we are fortunate to have strong partnerships with local community organisations and volunteers who generously share their time and skills with our students.
Through coaching, workshops and community programs, students have the opportunity to try new sports, develop new interests and build confidence. These experiences help students feel connected beyond the school gate and show them that they are valued members of our wider community, including local clubs and organisations.
Breakfast Club, (Monday to Friday).
At Bowen Public School, students are supported to start the day feeling welcomed, connected and ready to learn.
Each Wednesday, Mountain Hope generously gives their time to provide students with a special breakfast and a positive start to the school day. Mountain Hope also supports selected students through mentoring, helping build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging.
Peer Support
At Bowen Public School, peer support helps students build friendships, confidence and connection.
Older students have opportunities to guide, encourage and support younger students through buddy activities, playground connections and school events. These experiences help students develop kindness, responsibility, communication and leadership while strengthening connection across our school community.
Tinny Tiddas
Tinny Tiddas gives our female students the opportunity to build confidence, friendships and connection through hands-on learning.
Through practical tradie-style activities, students learn new skills, work together and explore their strengths in a supportive environment. The program helps students feel connected to each other, to school and to community, while encouraging teamwork, confidence and pride in what they can achieve.
